For the past 5 years I have thrown in with the faithfuls and bandwagon jumpers and have committed to one horror movie a day for the month of October. Why this month in particular? Well simple my dear sire, because while everyone knows that June is the scariest month (duh!), for some reason the governments of North America have declared October “spooky central” and enforce mandatory horrorthons for men and women of 18 years of age or older. We actually have it pretty easy, it used to be horrorthongs for anyone caught not wearing orange and black at any given moment. Horrorthongs are made out of barbwire, salt and spiders.
So here are the three flicks I started with this month. A bit of a disclaimers, I always do a mix of movies I have not seen, some I have not seen for a long time, and long time favorites. But I do not always do a nice spread of these so the variety might be a bit clumped together, much like the kitty litter after the cat has blessed you with their backseat magic offerings.
Faaaaaaaanfuckingtastic start to Pontypool, and a really great concept that I think just lost it’s way near the end when it just wandered away from what I thought could have been a couple strong endings. Overall I recommend watching it, but be warned you might not be as generous as me as there is plenty to roll your eyes over.
This is a movie I had seen before, but had not watched it since what was probably opening weekend of the flick. I was actually stunned that it held up as decent as it did, and while it is not great, I thought it was a pretty fun watch. Watching this just made me want to watch RELIC and SPECIES again as well.
Did Groundhogs Day not have enough creeps and killing in it for you? Then this movie probably still is not up your alley, but hey, you seem to want to add terrible plots to an already great flick so I am not sure what you wanted from me!!! Anyways, this movie is worth a watch as well, and was another that started off pretty strong for me but then just kind of fell into a bit of an autopilot rut it never got out of. Give it a go if you are looking for something to fill a couple hours that isn’t a gore fest.
